Off-Campus Study: Information for Parents

Thank you for visiting our Parent Information page for Off-Campus Programs. This is where the most recent information about off-campus programs will be posted for parents of our students planning to study off-campus. If you have questions or need further information, please contact us at hubbard@depauw.edu or +1765-658-4622.

Off-Campus Study Health and Safety

It is impossible to eliminate all risks associated with off-campus programs. In the age of global pandemics and heightened security risks, we take health and safety very seriously and have a number of protocols and resources available to mitigate risks while off-campus.

DePauw Provides Each Student Traveling Abroad:

Finances

Each program on the DePauw website at offcampus.depauw.edu has its own Cost Sheet with estimated costs. Students can update this with actual costs as part of their application in order to manage their budget.

Students will be expected to pay the following costs associated with their program.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

SEMESTER OFF-CAMPUS STUDY For most programs, Financial aid is 100% transferable to off-campus study (excluding work study). Additional scholarships from DePauw and external sources are available.
WINTER & MAY TERM OFF CAMPUS PROGRAMS Grants and financial aid are available for students with demonstrated need, based on the financial need code determined from the FAFSA.

Cancellation Policies

Cancel for Any Reason Insurance

DePauw strongly encourages participants in off-campus programs to purchase "Cancellation For Any Reason" travel insurance. This insurance is designed to protect your investment, though it may not cover 100% of lost costs in the event you are unable to participate in the program. While DePauw does not recommend a specific insurance agency, many insurance companies and travel agents offer travel cancellation insurance services for purchase. The International Travel and Accident Insurance coverage for all DePauw international travelers only covers travel cancellation for airfare if you are unable to travel due to illness, or medical care received while abroad. It does not cover program related costs such as accommodations, meals, entrance fees, on site travel, etc.

Preparation for Students Prior to Departure

DePauw's partners in off-campus programs

DePauw works with US-based and international organizations to manage our 100+ off-campus program portfolio. Once students are approved to study off-campus, they need to apply to and work with their host organizations and institutions to complete the application and pre-departure process. Our partners are considered some of the top education abroad providers, and have significant experience in risk management, health and safety. Questions about host organizations policies and resources can be directed to the organizations themselves. Information about our partners can be found on the off-campus study application platform. To access this information you do not need login credentials. If you need additional assistance reaching one of our partners, please contact us at offcampusstudy@depauw.edu.
