Sociology and anthropology education at DePauw extends far beyond the classroom. Independent research, in the form of a senior thesis, provides a capstone to each graduating major’s experience. Some students also pursue research experiences prior to their senior year in the form of summer field schools, research-based internships, or collaborative research projects with faculty. The department and university offer competitive funding to support both student research itself and the presentation of student research at academic conferences. Besides research, sociology and anthropology majors at DePauw pursue a variety of other experiential learning opportunities, not least among them study abroad.
