Harmonizing Tradition with Innovation

The 69É«ÇéÊÓƵ Institute of Music has a rich history dating back to 1884, making it one of the oldest music programs in the United States. Originally established as the DePauw School of Music, it was founded thanks to a substantial donation from Washington C. DePauw, for whom the university is named.

Today, the Institute of Music is part of our Creative School, an immersive community that brings together artists, scholars and innovators to push the boundaries of creativity.

The Institute of Music is open to all students, whether you are pursuing a career in music or simply looking for ways to make music a part of your well-lived life. At DePauw, regardless of your major, you can:

• Perform in large and small ensembles
• Attend master classes with renowned artists
• Participate in fully staged opera and musical productions
• Grow your skills in recording, stage managing, box office management and more
• Teach in the Community Music Program
• Study and perform abroad

At DePauw my professors applaud my curiosity, and I am encouraged to innovate in a major and minor I love.
