Statement on Scholarly or Artistic Work

My background in education has helped broaden my research in contemporary Iberian works of crime, a niched area of study, into instruction that prioritizes accessibility and including a diverse representation of Hispanic cultures. I develop instruction that utilizes authentic materials and OER resources. As such, students are encouraged to engage more directly with products, perspectives, and practices from the broader Spanish-speaking world. For example, my publications that work with the interplay between theories of gender and affect supported the textbook-free HISP 200 Topics course, Understanding Sex and Gender via Famous Figures from the Spanish-speaking World. Similarly, my research with expressions of paranoia in Iberian crime fiction inspired the textbook-free WT course, Paranoia in Hispanic Crime Fiction.
